It might seem like a cliché, like a “mid-age” crisis, but honestly, we start our spiritual journey the moment we come to this world. We tend to believe that there are some certain steps that we need to do in order to start this journey, but in fact, you already started it a long time ago. Being here is a journey. Every thing that we go through, what we experience, how we behave, how we process things internally, the choices we make and the state we find ourselves in everyday, contribute to your spiritual development, even if you are aware of the concept or not.
There is a point indeed where you will start working on things intentionally, where you understand what the end goal is and what would be some steps to follow for you to reach it. People nowadays tend to want immediate results, to follow a quick list and expect for progress. Unfortunately, in this area of our lives, this is not the case. So if somebody is promising you “illumination” in a short time, you might want to have a second thought on that.
A spiritual journey is a lifelong path, where you find your inner truth and a connection to something higher than everything you’ve experienced before. Usually found inside.
For some people it start with a “dark night of the soul”, they are heavily shaken up to the point that they see spirituality as the only way out. For some people it comes natural, they either have a more opened perception to it since a small age, or they find it throughout their lives. For some people, it begins in their very last moments on this beautiful planet, when something clicks and they realize that was the only truth we as humans could ever experience.
None of these are wrong, we are all unique hence we will have a very unique journey. What’s very important to remember is that what works for somebody, might not work for you.
There are multiple paths leading to the same truth. We are wondering why are there so many spiritual practices? Why are there so many religions? But at the core, they all talk about the same thing, only different paths to get there. And it is totally fine, we need to find what works best for us.
What I personally believe is that everybody is exactly where they need to be for their spiritual journey. Even if the situation is hard to deal with, we all have some lessons and experience that we need to go through. Some people experience “awakening” signs and have no clue, they might even end up in a psych ward for mistaking some clear signs of awakening with psych problems. That’s why i think it is important to have some self-awareness and to have also some knowledge about common signs.
Most of the time, this part is usually a heavy one. You can feel as a stranger in your own life, feeling like you don’t belong anymore. Note that as heavy at it might seem, these are good signs and things will shift sooner or later.
As I mentioned earlier, there are a lot of paths leading to the same result. We are usually drawn to a certain one, it either comes naturally to us, or we explore until something fits. You will feel deep down when a practice is your match, it just resonates with you, you see that practice as an ultimate truth.
The truth is, there is no final destination on this path. The longer you walk it, the more you realise that the journey itself is the point. Every layer you shed reveals another one beneath it. And somehow, that stops being terrifying and starts feeling like the most honest way to be alive.
We hope that you will take from here a permission to trust what you are already feeling, to take seriously the parts of yourself that don't fit the old life anymore, and to know that whatever brought you here today was not a coincidence.
You were already on this journey. You just became a little more conscious of it.
