How to start your spiritual journey
Most people are waiting for the "right moment" to begin their spiritual journey. The truth is, you already did. Here's what the path really looks like and how to consciously step into it.
May 21, 2026

It might seem like a cliché, like a “mid-age” crisis, but honestly, we start our spiritual journey the moment we come to this world. We tend to believe that there are some certain steps that we need to do in order to start this journey, but in fact, you already started it a long time ago. Being here is a journey. Every thing that we go through, what we experience, how we behave, how we process things internally, the choices we make and the state we find ourselves in everyday, contribute to your spiritual development, even if you are aware of the concept or not.

There is a point indeed where you will start working on things intentionally, where you understand what the end goal is and what would be some steps to follow for you to reach it. People nowadays tend to want immediate results, to follow a quick list and expect for progress. Unfortunately, in this area of our lives, this is not the case. So if somebody is promising you “illumination” in a short time, you might want to have a second thought on that.

What is a spiritual journey?

A spiritual journey is a lifelong path, where you find your inner truth and a connection to something higher than everything you’ve experienced before. Usually found inside.

For some people it start with a “dark night of the soul”, they are heavily shaken up to the point that they see spirituality as the only way out. For some people it comes natural, they either have a more opened perception to it since a small age, or they find it throughout their lives. For some people, it begins in their very last moments on this beautiful planet, when something clicks and they realize that was the only truth we as humans could ever experience.

None of these are wrong, we are all unique hence we will have a very unique journey. What’s very important to remember is that what works for somebody, might not work for you.

There are multiple paths leading to the same truth. We are wondering why are there so many spiritual practices? Why are there so many religions? But at the core, they all talk about the same thing, only different paths to get there. And it is totally fine, we need to find what works best for us.

What are some common signs that you are heading in a more spiritual direction?

What I personally believe is that everybody is exactly where they need to be for their spiritual journey. Even if the situation is hard to deal with, we all have some lessons and experience that we need to go through. Some people experience “awakening” signs and have no clue, they might even end up in a psych ward for mistaking some clear signs of awakening with psych problems.  That’s why i think it is important to have some self-awareness and to have also some knowledge about common signs.

  • your life is starting to look different from what you were used to. Maybe not even realizing, you are not hanging out with the same people anymore, you can’t tolerate “shallow” activities anymore, you start questioning your old behaviors and don’t really get the purpose of wasting time doing things that don’t necessarily matters. That’s when you know you start to shift frequencies and don’t match with what it used to be before. If you want more guidance about this, check “Higher Self” workbook, where we explain what vibration is, assess your levels and teach you how to raise and mentain you vibration.
  • you become more self-aware. You can see your patterns and everyone else’s patterns more clear, it’s like you can view things from above. You connect the dots quicker.
  • you begin to notice a small gap between trigger and reaction. you are no longer on auto-pilot, reacting the same second you process the trigger. you have a bit more control on your reaction.
  • your intuition heightens. you experience more “synchronicities”, more vivid dreams, it’s like you sense something before happening. it just pops up in your head or as a gut feeling.

Most of the time, this part is usually a heavy one. You can feel as a stranger in your own life, feeling like you don’t belong anymore. Note that as heavy at it might seem, these are good signs and things will shift sooner or later.

How do i consciously start working towards this journey?

As I mentioned earlier, there are a lot of paths leading to the same result. We are usually drawn to a certain one, it either comes naturally to us, or we explore until something fits. You will feel deep down when a practice is your match, it just resonates with you, you see that practice as an ultimate truth.

  • find a practice that works for you. You should start by identifying what it is that you need. You are more drawn to mindfulness, meditation, reiki,  body movement like qi-gong, hatha yoga. In my experience, the sweet spot will be a combination of all, but with the most focus on the “unseen”. You have to cross the body and mind threshold. The real practice starts when everything you know and feel is removed.
  • start reading about this topics. There is true knowledge from people who already passed different steps on this journey. Look for the “saints”. The illuminated. Not just interpretations of random people. Sure, we can learn something from everybody and at the end of the day, it all adds up. But there is a lot of value in the ancient writings, sometimes it’s good to even go and read the “scriptures” yourself. No interpretation, just you and the texts.
  • the goal is to reach a meditative state all day, not just dedicate 1 hour per day and the rest of it just stay in “chaos”. You have to be intentional about it and prepare yourself for the moment you will stay in meditation. A true spiritual person will embody the attributes non-stop, not just in a scheduled moment.
  • find someone to guide you. In most of the cases, we are blind to our own patterns, we are stubborn enough to think we can do it by ourselves. This path can start as a solo journey, but you will need guidance from somebody with real experience. Be aware though of different pretenders, the true people who work in light are few.
  • work on your ego and always keep an eye open to it. It might step in when you least expect. The whole point is to stop identifying with it and to understand that your true self is not your ego. There are a lot of spiritual practitioners that fall into the ego trap, thinking they are now better than the common people who have not walked on this path yet. Remember we all are where we need to be. Make an effort to try to remain humble and respectful.

Where do you go from here?

The truth is, there is no final destination on this path. The longer you walk it, the more you realise that the journey itself is the point. Every layer you shed reveals another one beneath it. And somehow, that stops being terrifying and starts feeling like the most honest way to be alive.

We hope that you will take from here a permission to trust what you are already feeling, to take seriously the parts of yourself that don't fit the old life anymore, and to know that whatever brought you here today was not a coincidence.

You were already on this journey. You just became a little more conscious of it.
